According to reports, just before 5:30 PM on November 15, an officer from the Clearwater Police Department was on duty and driving down a busy street, where there were many cars backed up during the rush hour.
It was reported that a man, who was also allegedly backed up, was walking on the road when he came across an opossum that had been run over by a vehicle. He reportedly pulled down his pants and exposed himself from the waist down, leaving himself visible to the traffic in the area. The officer spotted the person, and they reported that he was squatting with the dead opossum underneath him when he began to poop on the carcass.
According to the arrest report, the officer began to approach, and he noticed that the man “had his anal region exposed.” When he reached the alleged defecator, the officer asked him what he was doing. The man allegedly accused the officer of not being able to clearly see what was going on. He reportedly denied doing the dirty deed.
When he was identified, it was learned that the man was 45 years old, and he is currently without permanent housing. The affidavit noted that he stays in the Clearwater area.
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. He is facing preliminary charges of misdemeanor exposure of sexual organs. He was initially held in lieu of a $150 bond. According to jail records, he has since been released on his own recognizance.
