Last week, a Connecticut state trooper granted a DUI suspect his wish when he allegedly asked to be arrested after he was reportedly seen driving down the wrong side of the Interstate.

Early in the morning on July 2, a 63-year-old driver from Worcester, Massachusetts, reportedly became lost while driving his Lexus in Killingly, Connecticut. He pulled onto Interstate 395, but according to a state trooper who stopped in the median, the man was going north on the south side and facing oncoming traffic. The trooper lost sight of the vehicle before he could intervene, and a description of the vehicle was distributed so other law enforcement officers could keep an eye out.

According to reports, approximately 20 minutes later, an off-duty State Trooper noticed a car that appeared to be breaking several traffic laws. They alleged that in addition to driving unsafely, the vehicle, which also matched the description of the one reported, was swerving between the lanes on the road. The trooper pulled over the car, and the driver stopped without incident. A report released by the Massachusetts State Police said the trooper “observed clear signs of impairment to include bloodshot glossy eyes and the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage” when initially interacting with the man.
