On the morning of January 19, a 30-year-old Cape Coral woman was sitting in the car in a local Dollar Tree parking lot. At the same time, Cape Coral police officers showed up after they were told someone was stealing a vehicle from the location. When they spotted the woman, they headed towards her car, and she allegedly sped out of the lot after nearly striking a police vehicle.
According to reports, as the police pursued her, the woman drove erratically until she struck the center divider, and it rendered her car undriveable. Before officers reached her, she allegedly started running in the opposite direction. An officer with a K9 chased after her, and when she reportedly continued fleeing, the dog was released. The woman halted, and the officer called off the K9. They handcuffed her, and the officers reported that they found fentanyl and paraphernalia around the path on which the woman was running, and they asserted that it belonged to her.
