The aunt of a 1-year-old may face charges after the boy reportedly got his hands on her marijuana vape pen and inhaled THC from the device.

On the afternoon of May 14, a toddler was with his dad, aunt, and grandmother at their home in El Paso while his mother was working. While his dad was in the garage and his grandma was in the bathroom, the boy wandered into his 20-year-old aunt’s room while she was in another part of the house. He reportedly got ahold of a THC vape pen that was sitting on her dresser. The woman thought she heard him choking, and when she went to see what was going on, she reported that the child was still coughing, had a red face, and she thought she saw a small amount of smoke near him.

Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office went to the residence and noted that the father of the youngster was holding him. The boy was crying, and they reported that he seemed tired. When they talked to his aunt, she brought them to her room and pointed out the spot where she had left the vape pen. She explained that she did not think the child could access it since it was on the dresser. She also reportedly said she thought it was empty and needed to be charged.
