35-year-old Adam Tyler Smith, a Tennessee native, and painter by trade was convicted of indecent exposure and drug-related charges in the summer of 2019.
In February 2022, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls from people complaining that an unknown man called them using a video chat application. The people reported that when they answered, the man was nude and masturbating.
The first report that the authorities received was on the morning of February 13. The alleged victim told the police that they were able to capture a screenshot of the perpetrator that showed his tattoos. They also turned over the number that the call came from.
The second alleged victim spoke to the police on February 17, and they reported an incident very similar to what the caller reported a few days earlier, but the phone number that the call came from was different from the one given by the first caller.
On February 22, another call was received by the authorities from someone claiming they also received a video call from a nude man who was masturbating. The number they gave the police matched the number issued by the second caller.
When the authorities traced both numbers, they learned that they were registered to Smith.
On April 25, Smith, whose tattoos reportedly match the ones in the screenshot, talked to the authorities about the allegations. The man allegedly admitted that he had been calling people for months while he was masturbating.
Smith was taken into custody and booked into the Sarasota County Jail. He is facing felony charges for indecent exposure of sexual organs (second offense), and obscene communication. He was released on bond on April 31.
