Jewelry Theft Suspect Rejects Plea Deal in Florida Case

A Texas man accused of stealing more than $770,000 worth of diamond earrings from a Florida jewelry store rejected a plea deal and decided to represent himself at trial.

The 33-year-old defendant remained jailed without bond following his arrest in connection with a 2025 theft at a luxury jewelry store in Orlando. The authorities alleged that he stole two pairs of diamond solitaire earrings valued at more than $600,000 and $160,000.

Investigators said the man was arrested about six hours after the theft while driving on a Florida interstate several hundred miles away from Orlando. The authorities reportedly believed he was traveling back to Texas in a rented SUV.

According to investigators, the suspect swallowed the stolen jewelry after state troopers stopped him. Court documents stated that he allegedly asked officers whether he would be charged for the items inside his stomach and later commented that he should have thrown them from the vehicle.

Officials said a scan conducted after his arrest showed foreign objects inside his body. The authorities said the man stayed under guard at a hospital for about two weeks until the jewelry was recovered from his stool.

Prosecutors charged the defendant with robbery and grand theft. Court records showed that he recently waived his right to an attorney during a hearing.

It was reported that the man was offered a plea agreement before trial, but he decided he would not accept it. If convicted, he could face decades in prison. Prosecutors also sought sentencing enhancements tied to his alleged status as a repeat felony offender and prison release reoffender.

It was also noted that the defendant had a lengthy criminal history that reportedly included prior convictions involving theft, assault, resisting arrest, and drug-related offenses.
