A Florida man has been accused of trying to abduct a child from a mall arcade, in addition to reportedly attempting to enlist teenagers to sell marijuana for him.

A 10-year-old boy was hanging out at the arcade with nearly a dozen of his friends and an 18-year-old in the Viaport Mall. At one point during the excursion, the child reportedly walked toward the entryway to try to find his sister.

While the boy was searching for his sibling, a man, later identified as 27-year-old Tyler Houston Rathel, allegedly walked up to the child and made small talk asking if he would like to accompany him to the store.

On the afternoon of May 29, a boy in foster care was allegedly kidnapped from his elementary school by his biological mother when she left the campus with him against a court order prohibiting her from doing so.

Dylan Kostenko, an 8-year-old student at Towne Elementary School in Carson, lives in foster care since he was removed from his mother’s custody in May 2017.

Dylan’s biological mother, 29-year-old Dariia Kostenko, was granted monitored visits with her son, but she does not have permission to retrieve him from school.

A California woman, Denise Huskins, described the “hell that we have survived” to her abductor, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison. The police originally dismissed this case as a hoax because it was so elaborate and downright bizarre.

Huskins was held for two days, after being kidnapped and sexually assaulted by the abductor, which she describes as physical and psychological torture. The disbarred lawyer, Matthew Muller, reportedly snatched her from her home in San Francisco two years ago.

“I still have nightmares every night,” she said, fighting back tears. “Sleep is not rest for me; it is a trigger.” Her boyfriend was bound and drugged during the kidnapping. He said “he can not and will not ever be the same.” U.S. District Judge Troy Nunley called the abduction a “heinous, atrocious, horrible crime” as he sentenced 39 year-old Muller. Muller faced up to life in prison, but prosecutors agreed to 40 years in exchange for his guilty plea. Muller’s lawyer wanted a 30 year sentence arguing that Muller had manic depression and could be rehabilitated with proper treatment.

In a carjacking incident in Westminster the carjacker claims he was not aware of the three children inside the vehicle. The children’s father had left the car idling in a parking spot in front of a water store while he went inside, only expecting to be in there a short time.

Thien Nguyen’s defense attorney, in his opening statement, acknowledged that his client stole the Lexus SUV from a Westminster parking lot and led the police on a chase through multiple red lights.

Nguyen’s attorney also admits that his client quickly realized that there was an 11 year old boy in the passenger seat. But his lawyer denies that Nguyen purposely kidnapped the two boys and a girl. His lawyer also denies that his client intentionally rammed into other cars.
