A woman was jailed after reportedly bringing Jell-O shots containing alcohol to an elementary school party, though she explained to the police that she was unaware they had booze in them when she bought them.

It was reported that on December 20, an elementary school in Tyler, Texas, held a Christmas party for the students. Food and drinks were provided to the guests, and the students and their families provided the treats. The mother of one of the fifth graders who regularly assisted at school events bought small cups containing Jell-O and brought them to the event for the guests. Several students helped themselves to the dessert, and after eating it, they began feeling unwell and sick to their stomachs. All students who ate the Jell-O were sent to the office and assessed by school nurses. It was believed that the children got ill because the Jell-O cups contained alcohol, and just after 11:00 am, the assistant principal notified the authorities. An investigation was opened, and some of the leftover cups of Jell-O were tested and found to have been made with vodka.

On April 21, the woman was taken into custody and booked into the Smith County Jail. She is facing a preliminary charge of reckless bodily injury to a child. According to reports, she was released later that day, after posting a $75,000 bond.

Sherri Lynn Wilkins, a substance abuse counselor in California, hit a man with her vehicle and drove two miles with his body plastered to her windshield. Wilkins was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

The 55 year old Wilkins had pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and two counts of driving under the influence (DUI).

In 2014, Wilkins was found guilty on similar charges relating to the same crime, but an appeals court threw out the conviction based on the fact that her whole life’s criminal history had been admitted into trial and could have possibly caused prejudice with the jury.
