A Florida man allegedly claimed he had an extraterrestrial encounter that resulted in him being transported into a vehicle he was accused of stealing.

The series of alleged events took place in Volusia County and began in Ormond Beach, where a BMW owner briefly stepped away from his vehicle at Bicentennial Park while walking his dog. The car had been left unlocked, and the keys were reportedly sitting inside. Deputies later said someone appeared to take advantage of that opportunity and drove away in the convertible. A witness in the park recalled seeing a man who seemed disoriented get into the BMW. The witness later told the authorities that the individual had behaved oddly and had asked for help lighting a cigarette.

Not long after the vehicle was reported stolen, deputies spotted it traveling at extremely high speeds, estimated at more than 130 miles per hour. The BMW eventually crashed near a local intersection. When deputies arrived, the car was already in flames, and passing motorists had begun pulling the driver from the wreckage. First responders also worked to extinguish the burning vehicle. Body-camera video later released by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office showed the man was injured and had blood on his face.

Police in South Carolina arrested a man after a domestic situation turned violent when his wife tried to keep him from getting behind the wheel while he was allegedly intoxicated.

Officers went to the couple’s neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon after receiving a call that a woman had gone to a nearby home. When the police spoke with her, she explained that the argument had begun earlier in the day over something small. She reported that her husband had been drinking, and tensions rose after she smoked the last of his cigarettes. She said he became upset and announced he was going out to buy more, despite her belief that he was intoxicated. She added that she thought he might hurt himself or someone else if he drove, so she grabbed his car keys and tried to stop him from leaving.

According to reports, they struggled, and the situation escalated quickly. The man’s wife told officers he hit her in the face, leaving her nose bleeding, and lunged at her several times before she fled to the neighbor’s house. She also mentioned that she had ongoing concerns about his health and drinking habits, saying her efforts to encourage him to get treatment often caused friction between them.

A man who has been accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol allegedly caused an accident on Sunday and was reportedly seen walking back to his burning vehicle to light a cigarette off of the flames.

The alleged driver of the car, 25-year-old Robert Quigley, was traveling on Interstate 80 with a woman in the passenger seat when his vehicle, which is suspected of traveling at a speed of nearly 80 mph, crashed into the back of an SUV that was at a standstill in traffic. Following the collision, Quigley’s car ignited from what was suspected as a possible breach in the fuel line.

A nearby Citrus Heights Police officer reported that he noticed the accident when Quigley’s car caught fire, and when he headed toward the scene to assist he believed that Quigley changed seats with his passenger so that it would appear as if she was the driver.
