A woman was jailed after reportedly bringing Jell-O shots containing alcohol to an elementary school party, though she explained to the police that she was unaware they had booze in them when she bought them.

It was reported that on December 20, an elementary school in Tyler, Texas, held a Christmas party for the students. Food and drinks were provided to the guests, and the students and their families provided the treats. The mother of one of the fifth graders who regularly assisted at school events bought small cups containing Jell-O and brought them to the event for the guests. Several students helped themselves to the dessert, and after eating it, they began feeling unwell and sick to their stomachs. All students who ate the Jell-O were sent to the office and assessed by school nurses. It was believed that the children got ill because the Jell-O cups contained alcohol, and just after 11:00 am, the assistant principal notified the authorities. An investigation was opened, and some of the leftover cups of Jell-O were tested and found to have been made with vodka.

On April 21, the woman was taken into custody and booked into the Smith County Jail. She is facing a preliminary charge of reckless bodily injury to a child. According to reports, she was released later that day, after posting a $75,000 bond.

The mother and stepfather of a 10-year-old are facing charges after she reportedly had her hand burned on a stovetop as a form of punishment.

On April 19, a young girl and her brother were at their Biscayne Gardens, Florida, home with their stepdad, who was taking care of them while their mom was at work. The child pushed her sibling, and their stepdad reportedly forced her into the kitchen and made her hold her hand on a hot, coiled burner on the stovetop to punish her. After she got away from the 42-year-old man, the injured girl reportedly called her mother to tell her what happened. The woman allegedly did not try to help her, and the child was reportedly not taken for medical treatment.

When the child returned to school on Monday, her teacher saw that her hand was badly burned, and the girl told her that her stepfather had hurt her. The parents of a 3-year-old were arrested when the youngster was found on the roof of their residence while they were reportedly passed out after allegedly staying up all night to play video games and smoke marijuana.

According to reports, around 8:00 PM on April 9, the mother and father of two children, ages 3 and 1, checked on the youngsters before relaxing in their Glenville, West Virginia, home for the evening. They reportedly smoked marijuana and decided to play video games, and they ended up staying up all night. At some point, presumably while his parents were asleep, the 3-year-old managed to get out of his room and climb onto the roof of the dwelling. It was not reported how long the child was up there, but late the following morning, the police began receiving calls from people who saw him on the roof.

Just before noon, officers with the Glenville Police Department went to the address, and the youngster was still on the roof. The officers entered the home, but did not immediately find the parents. They reported that the house was dirty and had excrement smeared on the walls, and that they found the 1-year-old, whom they said “smelled of feces and urine.” The police reported that they went into the 3-year-old’s room, which allegedly had a lock on the outside of the door, and saw a broken window. They surmised that the youngster climbed out the window and made his way to the roof. While it was noted that the boy, who also smelled like he had soiled himself, was cold and wet because it was raining outside, there are currently no reports of physical injuries.

On the morning of February 24, a 35-year-old woman from East Hartford was driving on the Interstate with a 2-year-old in her vehicle. When she reached her exit and entered the ramp, the woman allegedly smashed into the back of another car. The authorities were notified, and state police troopers went to the location. The parents of a 15-year-old girl are facing many charges after allegedly locking her in a chicken coop for months and feeding her only packages of ramen.

It was reported that last September, Child Protective Services was contacted by a 15-year-old girl who told them that her parents had been locking her in a chicken coop for several months. They notified the Farmington Police Department to report the situation, which reportedly involved a couple who was believed to be abusing their teenage daughter, and an investigation was opened. The couple allegedly treated the other children well, but they were reportedly subjecting the young woman to horrible abuse.

According to reports, the teen was locked inside a chicken coop for long periods, even during times of inclement weather, in which she was forced to stay on her feet. She was reportedly fed nothing but packages of ramen, though the rest of the family ate normal meals. Additionally, her parents allegedly only let her use the bathroom twice a day. The alleged abuse reportedly continued for months before CPS was alerted. According to reports, on November 4, children at the Kiddie Academy of Greenwood were helping the teacher clean up when one of the toddlers began misbehaving.
