A 14-year-old in central Florida who is on probation for theft crimes is facing multiple felony offenses after the authorities reportedly linked him to the thefts of two vehicles.

On the morning of September 14, two people in Lakeland called the Polk County Sheriff’s Office within two hours of each other to report that their vehicles had been stolen. The first caller said she noticed her Kia was missing, and the second believed someone had made off with his Toyota Tacoma. The truck owner also informed the authorities that he might be able to help them locate his vehicle using an app that could track it. When they followed the signal, the truck and car were found parked near each other. Forensic investigators inspected both vehicles and reported that the fingerprints they found led them to a 14-year-old local boy.

When he was located, the teen, who has been on probation since last December for a previous theft offense, was taken into custody. It was reported that he initially did not want to discuss the situation with the investigators, but after showing him what they believed was evidence of his involvement, he talked to them without an attorney present. During the interview, he reportedly said he stole both vehicles. He also reportedly said he parked them both, ditched the keys to the Kia, and left the Tacoma keys in the truck. He is currently accused of several charges, including two felony counts of third-degree grand theft of a motor vehicle, two felony counts of burglary in the third degree, one felony count of third-degree grand theft of a controlled substance, and violation of probation – a second-degree misdemeanor.

A man on probation in Kentucky is facing multiple charges after he reportedly left the state without permission and physically assaulted an officer in Florida after collecting a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot.

On April 26, a man who previously served a 14-year prison sentence and is on parole until August became the recipient of half of the $167.3 million Powerball jackpot his mother won on a ticket he bought for her from a convenience store in Georgetown. On April 30, though he reportedly failed to get the required permission to leave the state, he and his girlfriend were involved in an incident at a hotel in Florida. While at the waterfront resort in St. Pete’s Beach, the man had an encounter with a patron that allegedly led to him striking the other party in the face. When a deputy from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office intervened to try to diffuse the situation, the man reportedly swung his leg, and his foot made contact with the deputy’s face. At the same time, the man’s girlfriend, who was allegedly intoxicated, reportedly began yelling at people and defending him.

When the deputy tried to arrest the man, he reportedly tried to run away. According to reports, after he was caught, he remained uncooperative with law enforcement.

The ex-girlfriend of a married Florida man reportedly pretended she was an ICE agent and allegedly kidnapped his wife from her place of employment.

On April 10, a woman was working a shift at the Days Inn in Panama City when someone wearing clothing giving the impression they were an ICE agent came to the hotel and asked for her. The employee noted that in addition to the outfit, the woman was carrying a walkie-talkie and a card that appeared to be from the sheriff’s office, causing her to further believe she was a legitimate law enforcement agent. When the employee was told she would need to accompany the woman to the sheriff’s office, she willingly got into the back seat of their vehicle.

According to reports, when they were in the car, the driver took the woman’s cellphone away and said she could make a call when they arrived. During the ride, the driver reportedly made comments about the passenger’s husband and told her she would be held responsible for his wrongs. The man’s wife, who knew where the sheriff’s office was, realized the driver had passed the location. The driver reportedly informed her that they were going to a different office, but instead allegedly drove the woman to an apartment complex and told her additional ICE agents were awaiting their arrival. When she was told to get out of the vehicle, the passenger was able to run away.

After being accused of retail theft-related offenses in August, a Florida man with a criminal history dating back decades was booked into the same jail for the 75th time.

Last month, a man from Clearwater reached a troubling milestone – his 75th arrest and booking into the Orient Road Jail. The 57-year-old habitual offender was first arrested in 1985, and over nearly four decades, he has faced numerous charges that resulted in 11 stints in prison.

According to reports, agents from the Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Theft Unit were investigating claims that fraudulent activity had resulted in merchandise from Lowe’s stores in Hillsboro and Clearwater Counties being stolen an estimated total of ten times. They purported that the person executed the scheme by taking barcodes from less expensive items and placing them onto higher-priced merchandise, allowing them to purchase products at a significantly lower cost. They believed they had enough information to determine who had carried out the alleged fraud, and upon further investigation, the authorities said the suspect had posted multiple online ads selling what they assumed was merchandise from Lowe’s.
