A man in northeastern Kansas was jailed after allegedly using a hammer to violently attack an elderly woman in the parking lot of a Whole Foods grocery store.
It was reported that early in the afternoon on November 30, an 85-year-old woman was at the Olathe Pointe Shopping Center in the parking lot near a Whole Foods Market when a man she did not know approached her. According to someone identified as a witness, he heard what sounded like a loud scream and went to see what was going on. When he got near the spot where the sound originated, he reportedly saw a man striking an elderly woman in the head with a hammer. He, along with other individuals in the lot, stepped in to protect the alleged victim.
The authorities were notified, and law enforcement went to the location to investigate. When they arrived, they reported that the alleged victim was lying on the ground in the parking lot with what appeared to be severe injuries on her face and head. She was quickly taken to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery for fractures.
